Pet Microchipping

At ASVC, we offer Pet Microchipping to provide permanent identification for your pet. This simple, safe procedure greatly increases the chances of reuniting with your pet if they are ever lost. The microchip is implanted under your pet’s skin and contains vital contact information that can be scanned by veterinarians or shelters.

Here at All Seasons Veterinary Care, we wanted to take a moment to highlight the significance of microchipping your pet, as it is a crucial step in responsible pet ownership. Research shows that pets who are microchipped are twice as likely to be reunited with their owners compared to those who are not. But what exactly does microchipping entail? A microchip is a small electronic chip enclosed in glass, which is injected and placed under your pet’s skin using a hypodermic needle. The process feels similar to receiving an injection, though the needle used for microchip implantation is slightly larger than those typically used for vaccinations. Most often, this procedure is performed while the pet is under sedation during their spay or neuter surgery; however, it can also be done during any regular vet appointment if necessary. It’s important to note that simply implanting a microchip is just the first step; it must be registered to be effective.

At All Seasons Veterinary Care, we take care of registering the microchip for you immediately after implantation using the information we have on file It’s essential for you to keep this information updated—if your phone number or address changes, please ensure that you update your details with the microchip registry. We use Pet Link brand microchips in our clinic, but there are several brands available on the market. If your pet were ever lost and taken to a veterinary clinic or shelter, staff members would scan for a microchip number to locate the owner. They would then consult the chip lookup database and contact the appropriate brand directly for your information. Please keep in mind that staff members cannot share contact details between parties; they can only provide you with information once they have verified ownership. Finally, while a microchip serves as an important form of identification, it should not replace traditional ID tags or rabies tags on collars. Using all these identification methods together maximizes your chances of being reunited with your beloved pet.
